My name is Marie Steele. Thank you so much for reading my story. If you were in Cincinnati, I'd buy you beer and greasy food. This is the rough draft. If you found any mistakes or have any suggestions, please write me.

Notes:

The Sappho translations are by Willis Barnstone
Suicide note #10 is a real suicide note quoted in the New Yorker.

I am also including some of the short stories I wrote in college (they're all housed on Angelfire.com so you'll get that intrusive pop up):

this is my ghost story

This story is halfway between being conventional and experimental. It's sad. Also there are people who think it sucks but I don't think so. I think it's the first good story I ever wrote.

This is a straight foreward conventional story. No one who's read it has told me it sucks. Mostly this is because it's hopeful and I think it gives people the impulse to not hurt my feelings

This is an experimental short story. It's not hopeful or sad. I had so much fun writing it I can't even say

Also I'm including a fake armwrestling tournament because it's good family fun:
