Daryl's mom fried the grill cheese sandwich and spooned the applesauce on the plates. It was winter outside and inside the heater smell rose up through the brown carpet. The snow outside had started out thin and shimmery but had become, by late morning, clotted and white. Daryl sat under the counter, enclosed in press board.
